New story line added to The Germaine Truth

We have added a new story line to The Germaine Truth. A Stranger in Town is the story of Cynthea McCoy, also know as Madame Zorro, the astrologer for The Germaine Truth newspaper. Patricia has written about 25 chapters, which we will post each week on Friday.

Site has been updated

The Germaine Truth website has finally been thoroughly updated, and new content is coming soon.
Stay tuned.

Site changes coming in next few months

We will be doing some major changes to The Germaine Truth site over the next few months to give a stronger voice to some of our characters, and we are in the process of designing an easier way for people to explore and follow the story.

Also in the plans is our long desire to add an accessible audio component to the blog, and to improve reader feedback functions.

This is a lot of work, but we also plan to keep up regular posts. We hope we don’t cause to much confusion to our current readers, but in the end, we think it will make The Germaine Truth a better experience for all.

Thank you in advance for your patience.

Article about The Germaine Truth at Blooking Central

Cheryl Hagedorn’s site, Blooking Central, has a three part discussion of The Germaine Truth, which came out of a back-and-forth between Cheryl and I about the site, and an article I wrote for her on the possibility of turning The Germaine Truth into a blook. Here is a link to Part One.

Awards, guest columns, community

We’ve learned recently that we have been awarded the Thinking Bloggers Award. We were nominated by Richard over at Undead Flowers, and now, to consumate our award, we must pass it on to five more blogs. We haven’t quite decided yet who are the lucky bloggers, but we should have a post here soon with the winners.

Cheryl Hagedorn over at Blooking Central might be on that list. She has a very active, and very thoughtful, blog covering all aspects of the blook world. I have written a guest column for her about The Germaine Truth, and I will let you know when she posts it.

Eli James, over at Novelr has a post about the need for a community for blookers. We thought you might like to take a look at it, particularly if you are a writer yourself. We agree completely with Eli that more community among writers is a good thing.

A Slow Summer Ahead

You may have noticed that new posts on The Germaine Truth have slowed to a crawl. We are doing major overhaul work on our websites, including bringing a whole new set of sites online. In addition we are moveing in the month of June to our new home in Silverton, Oregon.

What that means for The Germaine Truth fans is a slow summer ahead. We plan to be back in the fall with more regular writing, but until then it will be as we can find time. Thank you all for continuing to read us. We haven’t given up on you.

What is a blook? Does The Germaine Truth qualify?

We are not sure about the answer to that question. The term “blook” was first invented by the self-publishing industry to sell their services to bloggers. Turn your blog into a blook and become famous!

In this definition, a blook is a blog which has been turned into a book. We don’t fit this definition, although we might someday.

However, blook is also used much more loosely around the internet to refer to serial fiction or non-fiction which could become a book at some point, but may not even be the authors’ goal at all. This is more where we see ourselves.

The Germaine Truth is something which a book can never be. It is part of a new form of literature which is dynamic in a way that only the internet can allow.

So, we may end up with a book in the end. And maybe that will give us a little income to make up for the tremendous amount of work we put into this thing. The problem with the whole internet thing is how to get an income without totally prostituting yourself to the advertisers. If anyone has figured this out, please send us a line.

We are also a bit put off by the whole term “blook”! Do we really want to be associated with such an ugly word?

Anyway, blook or not, The Germaine Truth goes on.

We need character photos

We need photos of characters for The Germaine Truth. If you want to be a character in our story and have photos to contribute, we would love to use them.

Photos should not be too large, no larger than about 600k. 500 pixels on the largest dimension would be ideal, in jpg format.

You must own the photo, or rights the photo. The subject of the photo, if it’s not you, must give us permission to use their image also. If you upload a photo, please include a comment attesting this.

Send a message to photos (at) thegermainetruth.net, and we will give you upload instructions.

Site redesign for Germaine Truth going well

Our site redesign is moving forward. Check out The Germaine Coffeehouse, and our redesigned Germaine Online.

As you may have noticed, we have done away with our great flash video. We thought it was cool, but who wants to go through downloading the whole thing everytime you land on this page? Maybe we’ll figure out a less intrusive way of re-incorporating it.

More changes to come in the near future, including this front blog.
